Surrounding the Ayinger in der Au

Welcome to one of the most original and oldest parts of Munich! The borough of Au was first mentioned in records in 1340, although the official incorporation into Munich, the capital city and the royal residence, did not take place until 1854.

After its completion in 1839, the church Mariahilf represented the social centre of the borough Au.  Every Wednesday and Saturday, a market is held at the square Mariahilfplatz in front of the church. Three times a year, Bavarian customs are celebrated at the nostalgic market called “Auer Dult”.

Just cross this historical square to get to the AYINGER IN DER AU, the first independent inn of the family-led private brewery Ayinger Privatbrauerei. With its opening in the autumn of 2018, we have filled a gap: Finally, the borough Au boasts an inn that is typical for Munich: traditional, authentic, and nonetheless able to keep pace with changing times.

Besides the Auer Dult and the weekly markets, there are other exciting places to explore close by: It takes little more than five minutes to get to the river Isar. By walking a few hundred metres in the opposite direction, you will already find yourself strolling through the idyllic Kronepark. If you’d like to explore Munich’s night life after having enjoyed a hearty snack at our tavern, just cross the Reichenbach Bridge – that’s how quickly you get to the notorious borough Glockenbach.

Or check out the Marienplatz, the Sendlinger Tor or the Stachus. It takes you less than 15 minutes by bus or by tram, and there is always something going on in the evening!
